Athlete of the Week: Blake Elliott of East Knox football

Sports

Blake Elliott has been a standout player just about every time he hits the gridiron, whether it has been scoring touchdowns or stopping players in the backfield on defense. Last week in the opening round of the Division VI, Region 23 playoffs he was dominant on all fronts, and he is this week’s Athlete of the Week.

Elliott came out of the backfield rushing for 185 yards on 27 carries, crossing the end zone for four rushing scores. Three of his four touchdowns came in the second half. On defense, the linebacker tallied a game high 18 tackles with one for a loss.

“With Blake it is easy to look at his KMAC rushing title, or his KMAC leading 150 plus tackles and think that quantifies who he is as a player,” said Coach Andrew Beatty. “The stats only tell a small part of the story. Blake is an exceptional leader who holds himself to an incredible standard of excellence that is contagious in every facet of the program. Blake is one of the most selfless players I’ve ever had the pleasure of coaching and in everything he does he shows what East Knox football is all about.”

Playoffs included, Elliott now has 1,321 yards and 18 touchdowns on 183 carries- good for 7.22 yards per carry. He has 152 tackles with 62 being solo, and 11 going for a loss. He has also gotten to the quarterback for two sacks, while forcing three fumbles and recovering three, as well. Elliott was also named to the KMAC All-Conference first team.

Congratulations to Blake and good luck the rest of the way in the playoffs!
