Fredericktown volleyball wins first two rounds of Division III, Central 1 tournament

No. 5 Fredericktown (19-5, 11-1) won the first two rounds of the Division III Central 1 Sectional/District tournament last week, with wins over Tree of Life Christian and Africentric Early College.

Fredericktown knocked off No. 8 Tree of Life Christian (18-4, 8-4) in the opening round on Oct. 17.

The Freddies dominated the match against Tree of Life Christian, with wins of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-14.

In the first set Bella Mullins served an ace to tie the set at 6-6, and Lillian Rose had a kill to give the Freddies a one point lead. Tied at 7-7, Jill Bouton had a kill to take the lead again. Ella Bouton won the set on a kill slammed to the back row that couldn’t be handled to win 25-18.

In the second set Cally Carpenter put the Freddies up 4-1 on an ace, and then served another ace to go up 6-1. Fredericktown went on to win 25-13. In the third set the Freddies went up 6-4 on an Ella Bouton kill, and then 14-11 on a Mya Bryant block that landed for a point. Carpenter had another ace to go up 23-13 and Jill Bouton landed a kill to make it a 24-13 set. At set and match point, Mullins sealed the win with an ace.

The Freddies were led by Ella Bouton’s eight kills and Carpenter’s eight aces. Bouton also had a block and three digs, while Carpenter had 14 digs and a kill. Setter Julia Partington tallied 27 assists, six digs and a block. Jillian Bouton recorded seven kills and six digs. Taylor Bryant had 13 digs in the win. Mullins served a pair of aces and had eight digs. Lillian Rose and Mya Bryant each had six kills.

No. 15 Africentric (10-5, 8-4) took on the Freddies next, but Fredericktown made quick work of them in a sweep. The first set was all Fredericktown in a lopsided 25-5 victory. Africentric made it interesting in set two, but Fredericktown won 26-24. The Freddies finished with a 25-15 set victory to take the match.

Next up is No. 4 Johnstown on Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
