James A. Nelson, 76, of Fredericktown passed away peacefully on Monday evening, September 18, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 31, 1947, in Wellsville, New York to the late Albert I. and Jane B. (Gething) Nelson.

Jim honorably served his country in the Navy (USS Furse) completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. Jim was a member of the American Legion. Jim retired from Fredericktown Chevrolet. He enjoyed fishing, dirt track racing, and Nascar. Most of all Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Jim was a devoted husband and father and will be terribly missed but is at peace having accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Lynn (Smith) Nelson; sons, Jamie Nelson of Fredericktown, Michael (Kerry) Nelson of Lexington and Dusty Thompson of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Ava and Ryan; brother, Thomas (Carol) Nelson of Tacoma, Washington; niece, April Smith of Mount Vernon; nephew, John Lawson of Newark; sister-in-law, Sandra (Fred) Lawson of Mount Vernon; brother-in-law, Michael Smith of Mount Vernon; and his friend and racing buddy, Roger (Cheryl) Stricker of Mount Vernon.

The family will have a private celebration of life service at a later date.
