Patrol investigates fatal crash in Knox County

An investigation is underway after a fatal crash in Knox County. | Provided

Hilliar Township, The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Aug. 21, 2023 at approximately 8:30 a.m. on U.S. Route 36 near milepost 1 in Hilliar Township, Knox County.

Anthony Wolfe,18, of Sunbury, Ohio, was operating a 2010 Kia Optima westbound on U.S. Route 36. Rick Hickenbottom, 64, of Powell, Ohio, was operating a 2008 Ford Mustang convertible eastbound on U.S. Route 36.

Mr. Wolfe’s vehicle drove left of center and was struck by Mr. Hickenbottom’s vehicle.

Mr. Wolfe was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. Both Mr. Wolfe and Mr. Hickenbottom were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/or drug use is unknown at this time.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Central Ohio Joint Fire District, Delaware County EMS, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Knox County Coroner’s Office and ODOT.
