MOUNT VERNON – Republican Amber Keener announced her campaign for the 98th District Ohio House of Representatives seat, including eastern Knox County and all of Holmes and Coshocton counties.
“As a mother of five children, I was drawn to get more involved in 2020 in order to protect what is special in Ohio for my children and the next generation," Keener said. "As our next state representative, I will dedicate myself to serving the people of Knox, Holmes and Coshocton Counties.”
Darrell Kick’s term ends in December 2024. He has been term-limited and cannot seek reelection.
“I hope to continue in the tremendous tradition of service and conservative values Rep. Kick has shown our counties these past many years,” Keener said.
Keener said her focus will be fiscal responsibility and minimizing government waste, fraud and abuse while strengthening partnerships with local businesses. She has shown her commitment to protecting the lives of the unborn by hosting an Ohio Right to Life rally. She also supports Second Amendment freedoms.
“By limiting government overreach, we can ensure a freer Ohio for generations to come and empower Ohioans to pursue their dreams,” she said.
While serving on the Mount Vernon City Council, she created a partnership with the local YMCA enabling more children to access summer programs. Just this week, she announced her work to coordinate a project with $1.7 million in private donations and partnerships for a splash pad and a multipurpose building at Riverside Park in Mount Vernon.
Keener also led an Americans with Disabilities Act initiative to help emergency responders know when someone with special needs requires assistance. She used the unexpected destruction of streetlights as an opportunity to get audible crosswalk signals installed in Mount Vernon to make the community safer for people who have vision issues.
She said her most important role is as a wife and a homeschool mother to her five children. She quipped that her master’s degree in history with a focus on military strategy, “surprisingly enough, does not help keep those five in order.”
