Laracuente-Huebner triples, ties state record in 200M at Westerville
Fredericktown, Highland and Utica competed at the Division 2 Westerville meet and Highland’s Juliette Laracuente-Huebner was the only local participant to win gold – doing it three times and tying a state record in the process.
Laracuente-Huebner, a four-time gold medalist at the MOAC championships, tripled in the Division meet. Laracuente-Huebner won the 200M dash in 24.84, by 0.49 seconds and won gold in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.89 seconds, a margin of .75. That time tied a state record. She also won the long jump by more than a foot-and-a-half, jumping 19’2.5” to win by 1’7”. Laracuente finished second in the high jump, clearing 5’5” and losing by an inch and she led a contingent of six Highland girls into the regionals.
Elsa Hoam (Fredericktown), who won four golds at the KMAC championships, earned a silver medal in the 1600-meter run. The Freddies also captured silver in the 4x800 relay. Ella Bouton (Fredericktown) brought home silver in the discus and was third in the shot put. Alexis Eusey (Highland) was second in the shot put. Sydney Wilson (Fredericktown) just missed the platform, finishing fourth in the pole vault. She tied the height for third, but finished fourth on misses. Also just missing the podium, Lauren Garber (Highland) finished fourth in the 1600M and Highland’s 4x800 team finished fourth.
In boys track there were no golds, but Hunter Bolton (Highland) was third in the 800, Owen Krabill (Fredericktown) was third in the 1600, Matthew Miller (Highland) was third in the 3200, Highland was third in the 4x400 relay, and Highland and Fredericktown finished 2-3 in the 4x800 relay. In field events, Kieran Taylor (Highland) was second in the pole vault.
Grant Hartley (Fredericktown) was fourth in the 400, Toby Rogers (Highland) placed fourth in the 110M hurdles and fourth in the 300M hurdles and Fredericktown was fourth in the 4x400 relay finals after winning the prelims. In field contests, Highland’s Joel Roberts was fourth in the high jump.
Three Lady Jackets and relay team qualify for Regionals
Navaeh Williams won shot put gold and three Lady Jackets plus the relay team qualified for the regional meet by reaching the podium at the OHSAA Division 1, District 2 meet at Hilliard Darby High School on May 16-20.
Mount Vernon finished in sixth place with 39 points and were led by Williams, who advanced to the regionals with a gold-medal-winning shot put heave of 37’3.75”. Brooklyn Thayer also advanced with a third-place finish in the discus at 125’.
Marissa Rutter made it to the platform and advanced with a third-place finish in the 100M hurdles in 15.45 seconds.
Mount Vernon’s 4x200 relay team of Sarah Phillips, Zoey Morrison, Sydney Statler and Amaris Middleton finished fourth in 1:47.05, and also qualified for the regionals.
The boys did not finish with any qualifiers, but the 4x800 relay team finished fifth and set a new school record of 8:06.76. The new record holders are Logan Eggert, Brady Wiles, Zane Barber and Matt Salvucci and they broke a school mark that had stood since 1987. The boys team earned 30 points for 11th place.
14 local gold medals won at Granville
Six local schools were among 33 that competed at the Division 3 district track meet at Granville High School. Athletes from Cardington-Lincoln, Centerburg, East Knox, Danville, Mount Gilead and Northmor qualified and the competitors brought home 14 gold medals.
Quade Harris (Mount Gilead) was third in the 200M dash; Hayden Baker (East Knox) was second in the 400; Nathan Streby was first in the 800 in 1:56.19 to win by 2.7 seconds; Will Baker (Mount Gilead) won the 1600 in 4:24.40, with a margin of 2.02; Mount Gilead had a 2-3 finish in the 3200 with Will Baker second and Parker Bartlett third.
Peyton Horn (Danville) won the 110 hurdles in 16.23 and Horn earned silver in the 300 hurdles. Mount Gilead won the 4x100 relay in 45.11 and the 4x200 in 1:32.95. Northmor took the 4x400 relay in 3:29.86, with East Knox second. Mount Gilead captured the 4x800 relay in 8:11.03.
Owen High (Mount Gilead) won the high jump at 6’3, Matthew Bland (Mount Gilead) won the long jump at 21’7” and Cowin Becker (Northmor) was third. Connor Radojcsics won the pole vault by nearly two feet, vaulting 13’ to beat second-place teammate Cade Miracle’s 11’10”. Bryer Boeshart (Danville) won the shot put at 45’3.5”.
In the girls competition, there were three gold medalists and all were in field events. Natalie Hunter (Northmor) won the pole vault at 9’4”, Isabella Grennell (East Knox) took home the shot put gold with a heave of 33’8” and Mikala Harris won the discus championship at 110’ to win by 6’4”. Allison Crouse (Centerburg) was third in the discus and Sage Whetnall (Cardington-Lincoln) earned bronze in the 300 hurdles.
Many girls just missed the podium: Madilyn Elson (Mount Gilead) was fourth in the 100 and 400; Loey Hallabrin (Cardington-Lincoln) was fourth in the 800; Taylor Severt (East Knox) was fourth in the 3200; Rebeka Clark (Mount Gilead) was fourth in the 100 hurdles; Mount Gilead’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams were fourth; Isabella Grennell (East Knox) was fourth in the discus.
