Teams from 14 schools ran, jumped and threw at the Fredericktown Invitational on April 28 and the visiting Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets won both divisions, taking home the most gold.
East Knox Bulldog runner Nathan Streby, who will continue his track career at Ohio State University, was a two-time winner, taking the 800M and 1600M races in the boys division. Fredericktown track and field leader Elsa Hoam, who will move on to run track for Ohio Wesleyan University, won the 1600M run and the long jump in girls competition.
Mount Vernon HS won the boys division with 203 points, Fredericktown was third with 82, East Knox placed fourth with 56.5 and Utica placed sixth with 39.5. Mount Vernon student-athletes won nine gold medals, East Knox won two (both by Streby) and Fredericktown won one.
In the girls competition, The Lady Jackets won with 149 points, Fredericktown was third with 124, Utica placed fifth with 55.5, East Knox was sixth with 35 and Highland picked up two points for 11th. The Mount Vernon girls won eight gold medals and Fredericktown won three, with Hoam bringing home two championships for the host Freddies.
Boys competition
In the boys competition, Mount Vernon’s Mason Richards won the 100M dash in 11.49 seconds and MV’s Tye Thomas placed third.
MV’s Ethan Young won the 200M in 23.59, a 1.08-second margin over second-place teammate, Richards. EK’s Hayden Baker ran fifth.
MV’s Young ran second in the 400M and Fredericktown’s Caedmon Platt was fourth.
East Knox’s Nathan Streby won the 800M run in 1:54.44, which was 6.56 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Matt Salvucci of Mount Vernon. MV’s Logan Eggert placed third and Fredericktown’s Owen Krabill was fifth.
Streby also won the 1600M run in 4:23.28, nearly 12 seconds ahead of MV’s Eggert (second) and Fredericktown’s Krabill (third).
In a one-two podium finish, Mount Vernon’s Jojo Ernst beat teammate Eric Marhofsky in the 3200M run, winning by 1.49 seconds with a winning time of 10:27.91. Freddies Kaleb Randall and Aiden McManis finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
MV’s Jack Craigo won the 110M hurdles in 16.49, with fellow Jacket Dominic Fuscaldo finishing third, ahead of Utica’s Austin Kennedy for fourth.
MV’s Hunter Looney led a one-two Yellow Jacket finish in the 300M hurdles with a time of 42.21, beating teammate Fuscaldo. Utica’s Austin Kennedy was fourth and Fredericktown’s Jack Fowler finished fifth.
The Mount Vernon relay team won three events. The boys 4x100 relays saw Mount Vernon win, Fredericktown third and Utica fourth. The 4x200 relay was won by MV, the Freddies were third, East Knox fourth and Utica fifth. And the 4x400 also went to the Jackets, with East Knox second, Fredericktown third and Utica fourth.
The 4x800 relay saw the Freddies finish second, MV third, EK fourth and Utica fifth.
On the track side, Fredericktown’s Grant Hartley won the high jump at 5’8”, topping MV’s Jack Craigo. Utica’s Hunter McKinney was fourth.
MV’s Ben Fitzpatrick was second in the long jump and teammate Sami Lacksonen placed fifth.
Mount Vernon took the discus with Luke Mullins’s toss of 127’1”. Teammate Drew Mundy was third.
MV’s Ryan Morrison and Dakota Wagoner placed four-five in the shot put.
Girls competition
In the girls division, Mount Vernon’s Amaris Middleton won the 100M dash in 13.19. MV’s Sarah Phillips was third, East Knox’s Raelyn Todd was fourth and Fredericktown’s Kennedy Fisher was fifth.
The Lady Jackets had a one-two finish in the 200M won by Sarah Phillips in 27.11, beating Middleton by 0.22. East Knox’s Todd was fifth.
The 400M saw a third-place finish by Lady Jacket Sydney Statler. Fredericktown’s Kit Bellman was fourth and EK’s Macie Fawcett was fifth.
Alex Couch of MV was the top local runner in the 800M, finishing fourth.
Fredericktown’s Elsa Hoam won the 1600M run in 5:29.74, which was 10.27 ahead of MV’s Lucy Rush for second.
Mount Vernon’s Rush got her gold, winning the 3200M in 12:28.85 by a margin of 10.76. MV’s Hannah Hoffenberth was fourth and Utica’s Camryn Baker finished fifth.
Fredericktown’s Ashley Cockrell won the 100M hurdles by .74 seconds over MV’s Marissa Rutter.
Mount Vernon’s Rutter won her gold medal in the 300M hurdles in 50.49, to beat Utica’s Laura Brubaker by 1.64. Fredericktown’s Ayla Berger finished fifth.

The Freddies were second in the 4x200, Utica was fourth and MV fifth. Fredericktown’s 4x800 relay team finished second, MV was third and EK placed fourth.
In track events, Fredericktown’s Trinity Enzor was second in the high jump, with MV’s Ashlynn Scott third and Utica’s Maddy Scarberry fifth.
Fredericktown’s Hoam won her second gold medal, winning the long jump with a leap of 14’8.75”. Teammate Ellie Kershner was fifth.
Mount Vernon’s Brooklyn Thayer won the discus with a throw of 108’3”. Ella Bouton of Fredericktown was third and Isabella Grennell of East Knox was fifth.
Nevaeh Williams of MV won the shot put with a throw of 33’7”, two inches better than second-place finisher Grennell of East Knox. Bouton of Fredericktown was third and Katie Reed of Utica was fifth.
