MOUNT VERNON – Thomas A. “Tom” Hale, 51, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and formerly of Richlands, Virginia, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2022, at Riverside Methodist Hospital with his loving daughters by his side.

Tom was born June 7, 1971, in Richlands, the son of the late Arnold Junior and Marie (Burnette) Hale. He graduated from Richlands High School in 1989. Growing up in Virginia, Tom was passionate about bluegrass music. He came from a family of musicians and was taught very young to play the guitar by his father. Tom was always enthusiastic about finding opportunities to play and sing bluegrass music and was a member of the Central Ohio Bluegrass Association. Tom was employed as a truck driver for more than 22 years.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Mullins.

Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his loving daughters Cassie (Shane) Pumphrey and Maggie Hale (fiancé Quinton Ferenbaugh); grandsons Tommy and Ben Pumphrey; fiancé, Robin Adams; brother Gary (Besta) Hale; sisters Darlene (Robert) Shell and Carolyn Hale; brother-in-law Terry Mullins; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Tom was most proud about being a father and raising his daughters, who remember him as a patient and loving teacher of many life lessons – particularly the importance of loving one another, enjoying life’s simple things and never passing up the opportunity to have some fun. Family and music were the things Tom enjoyed most, along with the occasional open road to ride his Harley-Davidson. Anyone who knew Tom would agree that he was the life of any party, always making everyone laugh with his endless jokes and stories. A friend to many and a stranger to none who he encountered, Tom was known to show up for anyone who needed a helping hand.
