CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors) announced its Academic All-District Team members for the 2022 calendar year, and the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team had three student-athletes receive spots.
The 2022 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Ashley Townsend, Sarah Townsend and MacKenzie Thorne each were named to the NAIA District 1 Team after strong seasons for MVNU.
Ashley Townsend was named an All-Crossroads League honorable mention recipient in 2022. Having already graduated with a business & sports management degree, the midfielder from New Concord finished the season with a 4.0 GPA. Townsend had a standout season on the field as an anchor on MVNU’s back line.
Sarah Townsend joined her sister in earning an All-Crossroads League honorable mention nod. Townsend has already completed her undergrad in biology. The defender from New Concord wrapped up the season with a 4.0 GPA.
Thorne had a strong season as a midfielder for MVNU. Thorne was a reliable source for the team throughout the year, while also getting it done in the classroom. The biology major finished with a 3.61 GPA.
