MOUNT VERNON – Rebecca Sue (Becki) Mickley, born Aug. 23, 1953, and died Sept. 9, 2022. It is with admiration for Rebecca’s resilience and endearment that our family honors her memory. Her long life came peacefully to an end surrounded in faithful devotion by her loving sisters.
Although she had distinct limitations, she thrived as an integral part of her family of eight’s busy lifestyle. She attended educational programs provided by the Knox County and Franklin County Departments of Developmental Disabilities. As an adult, she resided at the wonderful Heinzerling Community, where she received the best of supportive and therapeutic care. Her very favorite activities included: having a fruity chapstick, a refreshing dip in a pool, a rocking radio and a horseback ride. The sweetness and purity of Rebecca’s heart was a gift to many. She inspired advocacy for the disabled and greater empathy for the needs of others. Rebecca was greatly loved and will be remembered for her gentle spirit and her lovely pink cheeks.
Rebecca has been welcomed into heaven by her parents, John and Julia Mickley; her brother John Edward (Pete) Mickley, Jr.; her sister Margie (David) Watkins; brother-in-law Thomas Betts; and nephew Ian Van Heyde.
Rebecca is survived by her sisters Nancy (Stephen) Van Heyde, Shirley (Tony) Wall and Deborah McMahon; sister-in-law Mia Mickley; and by loving aunts and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rebecca’s family is grateful for the loving and competent end of life care provided by Heinzerling Community and Grant hospital.
Masses in honor of Rebecca will be celebrated at St. Luke in Danville and Our Lady of Peace in Columbus. A private family farewell and interment will be celebrated at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Christus Gardens Chapel, Mount Vernon, with the Reverend Deacon Jeffrey Fortkamp officiating. The arrangements for Rebecca’s final journey were entrusted to Egan-Ryan Funeral Directors in Columbus.
Those wishing to do so may make donations in Rebecca’s memory to Heinzerling Community Foundation, 1800 Heinzerling Dr., Columbus, OH 43223; Tel. 614-272-8888.
