MOUNT VERNON – Ruth E. McKenzie, 88, of Mount Vernon died Monday, Sept. 20, 2022, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Ruth was born May 21, 1934, in Texas to Wesley and Norma (Allen) Wolcott.
She was the second female pilot in Knox County in 1968 and went on to manage the office for the Knox County Airport. She then moved to Denver. where she managed the office for Hoffman Pilot Center. She attended Mount Vernon Academy and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed quilting, puzzles, her family and, of course, flying.
Ruth will be deeply missed by her daughter Jennifer (Larry) Cabral; grandchildren, Steve (Kelly) Cabral and Christina Cabral; and great-granddaughter Josefina Cabral. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Marilyn and Nellwyn; and son Steven McKenzie. Her family will celebrate her life at a later date.
