MOUNT VERNON – The Lucy Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is inviting area students in grades five through eight to enter its 2021-2022 American History essay contest.
The topic is Delegate to the Second Continental Congress.
The Second Continental Congress met from May 10, 1775, to March 1, 1781, and included delegates from all 13 colonies. This congress was instrumental in shaping what was to become the United States of America. Imagine that you are a delegate during the 1774-1776 Second Continental Congress. Which colony are you from and what will be important for you to accomplish for your colony?
All fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students in a public-private or parochial school, or those who are homeschooled, are eligible. Entries for grade five must be 300 to 600 words. Entries for grades six, seven and eight must be 600 to 1,000 words.
All of the essay must be the student’s original work and include a title page with specific information and a bibliography.
The contest deadline is Nov. 1. One essay at each grade level will be selected as the chapter winner and will be forwarded to the state competition.
