Gladys (Smith) Huddlestun, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022.  

Born and raised in Columbus, she and the family moved to Marengo in her teen years, and she graduated from Marengo High School in the class of ‘52. She married her sweetheart, Lloyd “Bud” Huddlestun, and settled in Rich Hill, where they lived for 51 years to raise their four children and host countless gatherings and celebrations before retiring to Cocoa, FL, in 2001. They subsequently moved to North Carolina in 2016.  

Gladys was a devoted wife, mother and loving grandmother “Granny.” She greatly enjoyed hosting grandkids, outdoor activities, music, volunteering for community and church functions, watching sports – especially the Reds – and golfing. 

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bud; parents, Walter Smith and Rachel Decot; daughter, Ruthann; grandson, David Huddlestun; and great-grandson, Elijah Collins. She is survived by her devoted sister, Darlene Dill of Westerville; sons, Wayne (Sherry) Huddlestun of Sparta, John (Birgit) Huddlestun of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and daughter, Nancy Hendrickson of Pineville, NC.; grandsons, Travis Huddlestun of Delaware, Andrew Hollis of Marengo, and Peter (Kelsey) Huddlestun of Columbia, SC; and granddaughters, Jenifer (Michael) Averill of Waxhaw, NC, Shannon (Jason) Collins of Pataskala, Carrie Buck of Fredericktown, and Emily (Anthony) Hunter of Fredericktown. She is fondly remembered and loved by great-grandchildren, extended family and many dear friends.

Friends may call from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61 (at Rt 3), Sunbury, and are invited to attend the 2 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Dean Faulkner officiating. A brief service will be held graveside at the Rich Hill Cemetery.
