Grayson Workman epitomizes the demeanor and atmosphere at Mount Vernon Junior League golf sessions.
Workman, who is heading into the sixth grade at Mount Vernon Middle School, said, "I look forward to Thursday mornings because I get to come and work on my putting stroke. It is a lot of fun for me because I get to spend time with my friends on the course.”
Junior League play and coaching is held every Thursday from 10 a.m. - noon at Vernon View Golf Course, 901 Beech St. in Mount Vernon, with play ending July 21. It is limited to 30 players (boys and girls) ages 10-18. Instruction focuses on putting and chipping, basic swing mechanics, the rules of golf and on-course play.
Instructors include T.T. Crouch, assistant golf Mount Vernon Nazarene University and former PGA Canada Tour winner, and Mount Vernon golf coach Anthony Savage. The league has completed four weeks of competition and level instruction/play. Results of the fourth week of action will be printed in Saturday's edition.
So far, Workman has advanced to Level 3 (play from 50 yards) and is in sixth place in the Wendy's Division.
