Gun use and safety training for teachers, school staff

Letter to the Editor

Gov. Mike DeWine supports reducing gun use and safety training time for teachers and school staff. This makes it even more dangerous that an untrained person will use the gun improperly or a student will get hold of it for suicide or murder. Police and teachers do not want teachers to be armed. The situation is already too confusing when there’s an active shooter, and there’s likely to be mistaken targeting of a person with good intentions instead of a killer. Please call your legislator, Rep. Shawn Stevens (614-466-1431, 12th District), to ask him to vote against HB99.

Don’t stop there. It’s way past time for legislators at all levels to curb the flood of weapons of war going to people as young as 18, as happened in Uvalde. Children and teachers are more important than gun laws that allow people who have already shown themselves a threat to their spouses, girlfriends and society to buy weapons of war and/or carry concealed weapons for which they do not need permits.

Be pro-life. Pass gun sense laws that don’t infringe on the rights of good gun owners, the majority of whom support background checks.
