This week you will notice a new look and feel to the Mount Vernon News paper and website.
Our goal was to give it a more modern and fresher look and structure our content around Mount Vernon, other parts of Knox and Licking counties.
• Structure the layout with Knox and Licking County sections.
We are proud of the history of the Mount Vernon News and its legacy.
We’d also like to update you on some of our efforts and improvements to better serve local journalism and our business community.
We have increased our weekly single copy and free sampling around town by over 1,500 copies! When you include our paid subscribers who receive in their mailbox every week, our total weekly printed editis will be over 2,500 copies.
Digitally speaking, Mountvernonnews.com has over 50,000 monthly page views and two weekly emailed newsletter that have over 11,000 opt-in subscribers with an average open rate of over 40% which is extremely high for industry averages.
All of our digital products are free to serve our communities and we have a nominal print subscription fee due to the high-cost structure of producing print compared to digital.
We’ve also asked you to send us your news tips around the community.
We’ve received great engagement and published several stories based on your feedback. Your input has also led to a regular monthly feature, “Kids Corner” which showcases local elementary schools, their students, and their accomplishments.
You may have noticed our digital screens around town this year that offer another distribution channel of our hyper local content as well as another marketing tool for our valued advertising clients.
The 12 locations of our digital screens have over 75,000 impressions every month and when you total up the reach of all of our print, digital, and screen products, we have over 175,000 monthly impressions. That means we are reaching more total audience today than we did three years ago. This also shows our commitment and investment in the business over the past year.
It was recently reported by the Northwestern University that more than half of U.S. counties have no access, or very limited access, to local news while a third of all newspapers will be gone by the end of 2024.
Rest assured Mount Vernon News is doing all we can to not only provide more local journalism, but have the business model to sustain for many years to come.
