COLUMBUS – Today, the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee heard sponsor testimony from Representative Jean Schmidt on the Human Life Protection Act. The Human Life Protection Act effectively bans abortion and would go into effect in the event that Roe v. Wade is overturned by the United States Supreme Court.
The following statement may be attributed to Elizabeth Whitmarsh, director of communications at Ohio Right to Life:
“Make no mistake that today’s hearing is historic. This is what the pro-life movement has worked towards since January of 1973. Every single bill and grassroots effort in the state of Ohio has led us to where we are today – a veto-proof pro-life Ohio General Assembly, a pro-life majority in the United States Supreme Court and a diverse grassroots movement fighting for a culture of life.
“Ohio Right to Life has worked tirelessly to promote this bill and we will continue working day in and day out for a swift passage, having full confidence that pro-life Gov. Mike DeWine will sign it into law. We are more than grateful to Rep. Jean Schmidt for sponsoring this bill and being a strong pro-life leader for the cause.”
Founded in 1967, Ohio Right to Life, with more than 40 chapters and local affiliates, is Ohio's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement in Ohio, ORTL works through legislation and education to promote and defend innocent human life from conception to natural death.
