MOUNT VERNON – Lloyd Dwaine “Homer” Grant, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Nov. 14, 1939, in Mount Vernon, the son of Lloyd and Dorothy (Earnest) Grant. Homer originally worked for Lamb Glass before retiring after 34 years of employment with Columbia Gas of Mount Vernon. 

Homer liked to square dance and was a member of the Dixie Squares. He was also an active member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He served as a Monroe Township trustee for over 14 years and after retirement he enjoyed driving for Goetzman Automotive. Most of all, Homer adored his wife, daughters and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife, M. Elaine (Maxwell) Grant, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1958; his daughters, Jackie (Steve) Shorten of Monroe, Ohio, and Brenda (Dale) Wells of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Jeremy Irwin, Zachary (Haley) Shorten, Katie Shorten, Mindy (Drew) Hayes and Randy (Abby) Hayes; five great-grandchildren, Everleigh Shorten, Libby Hayes, Marcus Hayes, Hudson Wells and Ruby Wells; and his sister, Carolyn Meeks of Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, March 28, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 14764 Wooster Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, where friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Susan Stephens will be officiating.
