MOUNT VERNON – Helen D. Connell, 89, of Mount Vernon passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the Tuscany Gardens in Pataskala. She was born on July 24, 1932, in Mount Vernon to the late Arnold “Dutch” and Davada (Byrd) Hollifield Sr.
Helen and her husband, Don, owned and operated Connell’s Furniture in Mount Vernon, which they started in 1957. She was the interior and décor designer for Connell’s Furniture. She and Don loved to travel throughout the United States and the world. She loved sports and even played semi-pro fast-pitch softball. One of her greatest joys was watching her children and grandchildren play sports, and she never missed a local event. Helen was a great seamstress and quilter. She enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
She is survived by her husband, Don W. Connell; sons, Don J. (Candie) Connell and Edward (Linda) Connell; a daughter, Janet (Kenneth) Reynolds; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Along with her parents, Helen is preceded in death by brothers Arnold Hollifield Jr., Jesse Hollifield, Francis Hollifield and Clifton Hollifield.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 22, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service starting at 1 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home-Lasater Chapel; 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, with Roger Marra officiating. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery.
