SPARTA – Maxine W. Scott, 91, of Sparta died at home Sunday, March 6, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1930, in Marysville to the late Wilbur B. and Geneva F. (Loy) Pierce. Her life centered on caring for the needs of her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Bowling was a passion of Maxine’s. She bowled up until her 90th birthday at the Mount Vernon and Fredericktown Lanes and is a member of the Knox County Bowling Hall of Fame. She enjoyed fishing, canning vegetables, card games – especially Pinochle – and watching her great-grandchildren play sports.

Maxine considered Wendy’s her second home, with two visits daily for her meals. Her husband, Lewis, restored John Deere tractors and displayed them with the Morrow County Antique Tractor Club and various community events and parades, a hobby they shared together. Spunky and ornery, she was one who spoke her mind. Very generous, she was a mother to more than her own. She was strong-willed, independent, and will be remembered for her loving ways.

She is survived by daughters: Sharon (Leon) Holtrey of Marengo and Diana Duncan of Centerburg; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Lewis Scott; daughter Diana Lynn Scott; three brothers; and two sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N St Rt 61 at St Rt 3 in Sunbury. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., in the Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta, with Pastor Brad Duncan officiating.
