MOUNT VERNON – Mary Lou Shaw, 64, of Mount Vernon passed on Wednesday evening, Feb. 16, 2022, at the Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon. She was born in Newark on Nov. 9, 1957, to Charles Shepard Sr. and the late Beverly (Fitzpatrick) Shepard.
Mary retired from Kenyon College, where she worked in the food service department. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, gambling, and going to garage sales and flea markets, but most of all Mary loved spending time with her family. Whenever Mary ended a conservation with you, she would say, “Just remember I love you more.”
Mary is survived by her children, Michelle (Jimmy Smith) Shaw, Jason Shaw, Jerad Shaw and Jerry “Bubba” (Heather Walters) Shaw; four grandchildren, Justice, Jadda, Jerry III “Trey” and Haylee Shaw; her father, Charles; sisters, Tina (Steve) Eberwine and Tammy Shepard; brothers, Charles (Sharon) Shepard, Rick Shepard, Danny Shepard, Jerry Shepard and Steve Shepard; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special niece and caregiver, Rachael (Scott) Glancy, aka Mr. and Mrs. Shitman.
In addition to her mother, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jerry Shaw, on Jan. 27, 2020; and brothers, Michael Shepard and Winfield “Wilbur” Madison.
The family will receive friends from Noon until the time of a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jerry, at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
