MOUNT VERNON – Joan Hope Spiegel, 66, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2022, at Knox Community Hospital due to pulmonary embolism. She was born on May 22, 1955, in Zanesville to the late Bernard E. and W. Joyce (Madden) West.
Joan graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a bachelor's degree in art education. She was an accomplished sculptor and painter. Joan was an administrative assistant and art director at the Public Library in Mount Vernon for 37 years. One of her favorite authors was Robert Frost. She loved the outdoors and anything that grew up from the ground.
Joan is survived by her husband of over 43 years, Tony Spiegel; beloved daughter, Jessica (Jeremy) Myser of Mount Vernon; grandsons, Henry and Jack and grand-dog Greta; sisters, Faith LaFollette, Joy Gammon and Jerrie (David) Strickling of Zanesville and Lisa (Jerry) Trotti of Dublin; and brother Tim (Becky) West and sister-in-law Lenora West of Zanesville, along with several beloved nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service was held at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home and burial was in Brandon Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
