Angus Soderberg won the 800-meter run in 2:03.51. | Kenyon College

Lords finish second at Wooster Quad

In its indoor first meet of the 2022 calendar year, the Kenyon College men’s track and field team finished second at the Wooster Quad. Wooster won its home event with a total team score of 161 points, followed by Kenyon’s 94.

Starting off the day for the Lords, Riley Orth won the shot put with his throw of 44-11 3/4, almost three feet longer than Oberlin’s Zac Ntia.

On the track, the 800-meter relay team of Emmanuel Makelele, Hans Schwarz, Charles Atkins and Tapiwa Gono Phiri finished in 1:35.35, winning the first men’s running event of the day. The relay team win is its second of the season after winning the relay at the Wittenberg Tiger Opener. Following the 800-meter relay win, Colin Witt finished second in the 400-meter run with his time of 54.9 seconds.

The Lords’ second win of the day on the track came from Angus Soderberg, who finished the 800-meter run in 2:03.51, almost two seconds ahead of the next closest runner.

Returning to the track, Gono Phiri won the 200-meter dash in 23.62 seconds. After Phiri, the Lords’ Peter Bernhardt, Samuel Rabieh, and Jeremy Baier finished two-three-four in the 3,000-meter.


Ladies take third at Wooster

Returning to action for the first time since Dec. 4, the Kenyon College women’s indoor track and field team scored 109 points Saturday and finished third at the College of Wooster Quad Meet.

Oberlin College finished the day atop the standings with 158 team points. Wooster scored 118 points and edged Kenyon for second place.

Davida Harris, who led a strong Kenyon contingent in the 800-meter run, won the event with a time of 2:33.83. Logan Vidal was second in 2:34.09. Following those two, Lorien Kauffman placed fourth in 2:36.71 and Lindsey Neff placed fifth with a time of 2:39.09.

Kenyon’s other win came from Nina Beardsley, who won the mile in 6:16.83. She finished just ahead of classmate Jada Swearingen, who took second with a time of 6:21.06.

In field events, Eras Yager led the way. She recorded a second-place finish in the shot put and a fifth-place finish in the weight throw. In the shot, her best effort measured 34-3 ½, and ih the weight throw, her best tossed traveled 32-0.
