LEXINGTON – Marilyn M. Van Houten, 71, passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 22, 2021, following a brief illness.
The daughter of Adam and Ethel (Bradley) Brack, Marilyn was born Dec. 8, 1950, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and graduated from Kamehameha High School in 1969. She attended New Mexico State University and in 1988 became a registered medical assistant.
Marilyn naturally placed others’ needs before her own. She was selfless, considerate and thoughtful. Marilyn was gifted with patience to work as an amazing therapeutic patient worker, where she invested in the lives of special needs adults. Marilyn retired from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center after working nearly 20 years.
Family-oriented, she loved her grandchildren and her role as grandma. The glue that held her family together, Marilyn was so good when it came to remembering birthdays and anniversaries. She never missed a date and even reminded her family and friends of upcoming dates that needed to be acknowledged.
She was a huge Cleveland Browns fan. Marilyn collected lighthouses and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.
She will be remembered as a sacrificial and loving mom, grandma, great-grandma and sister.
She is survived by her children Cari (Stephen) Lewis, Eric (Tisha) Van Houten and Jon (Allie) Van Houten; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings George (Deanne) Brack, Frances Gusman, Ronald (Margaret) Brack, Michael (Kathleen) Freitas and Donna Mendes; aunts and uncles Herbert (Lillian) Bradley, Theresa Becky Lau and Frances Palmyra; and godson Peter Pinto.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
