MOUNT VERNON – Michael C. Maggard, 58, of Mount Vernon went to meet his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family after a yearlong battle with cancer.
He was born on April 14, 1963, in Columbus and was the son of the late Gary W. and Geraldine (Long) Maggard.
Michael surrendered his life to Jesus Christ in 1974 and was baptized at Reynoldsburg Baptist Church. Michael proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1981-1985. While serving in Neu Ulm, Germany, he met and married his loving wife of 37 years, Birgit (Sonntag) Maggard.
A skilled craftsman, Michael ran Maggard’s of Mount Vernon alongside his brother, Matthew, and father, Gary. He eventually became the sole proprietor of Maggard’s Carpet, where his talents were respected and appreciated among members of the community.
In addition to his wife, Michael is also survived by his son, Josh (Kate) Maggard of Cincinnati; a daughter, Diana Christopher of Columbus; brother, Mark (Amy) Maggard of Powell; sisters, Laura (John) Cook of Lexington and Linda (David) Patrick of Mount Vernon; a sister-in-law, Kimberly Maggard of Mount Vernon; and six grandchildren, Riley, Isaac, Oliver, Connor, Eleanor and Sophia.
