MOUNT VERNON – Betty L. Mossholder, 82, of Mount Vernon, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021. She was born in Tazewell County, Virginia, on July 21, 1939, to Louie Sr. and Carrie (Beavers) Altizer. Betty was the baby of nine who moved to the Centerburg area in 1947.
She graduated high school from Sparta High School (Bloomfield) in 1957. Betty attended and graduated from Columbus Business School and worked at Aid Financial right after graduating. While her children were little, she was a 4-H adviser for many years; she worked at Delaney Flower Shop and Neff’s Grocery store before returning to the banking world at First-Knox National Bank. She retired from First Knox after close to 25 years. She enjoyed working at the bank and made many great friends over the years. After the bank, she volunteered every Wednesday morning at the Interchurch shop for over 15 years. She looked forward to going into the shop to organize and look for things to buy for her grandchildren.
She was an active member of Brandon United Methodist Church, where she organized programs, decorated for events and helped plan many dinners.
In the summertime, you could find her watering her flowers or garden, canning half-runner green beans and attending many of her grandchildren’s events from soccer, ball games or ringside at pig shows.
Betty was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Jim and Betty were season ticket holders for 20 years. Their last game was on Betty’s 80th birthday.
Survived by James (Jim), her husband of 60 years; children Trudy (Dennis) Bartley, Cindy (Dane) Hogle. Grandma to Jessie (Daryl) Davison, Kari (Keith Chappelear) Bartley, Christina (Gage) Maidon, Cody (Katie) Hogle and Adam Hogle. Great-grandma to Corbin, Alyssa, Cooper, Katie, Miah, Dylan and Madison. She is also survived by her brother Warren (Peg) Altizer; sister Mary (Jim) Stiffler; sisters-in-law Susie Altizer and Judy Altizer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Louie Jr, John (Jay), Rex, Dewey and Norm; and sister Lucille Kauffman.
A celebration of life service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio or Brandon United Methodist Church.
