Jackets roll to season-opening win over Highland
The Mount Vernon co-ed varsity bowling team jump-started the 2021-2022 season against Highland at Colonial City Lanes in Mount Vernon, Nov. 26.
With experience and returning lettermen on both sides of the lane, Mount Vernon pulled off a sweep as both the boys and girls varsity squads won. The boys rolled to a 2,099-1,836 win, and the girls were victorious by a 1,681-1,426 pin count.
The Lady Jackets came from behind in the first game on clutch bowling from senior captain Izzy Moore and first-year bowler Laura Page. Mount Vernon’s top bowlers in the two-game set were Chelsea King at 335 and Jace Kyle at 305.
The boys hit the alley with a full complement of returning bowlers as well as a few newcomers. The Jackets took the lead in the first game and won by 99 pins, and wound up with a winning margin of 263 pins. Mount Vernon’s top bowlers for the two-game set included senior Jake Tucker with a 388 and junior Tre Flowers with a 378 total.
Bulldogs warm up with 4th-place finish
The East Knox Bulldogs boys varsity bowling team participated in the Northmor Warm-Up Tournament and finished fourth overall, ahead of teams from Centerburg, Shelby and Northmor. The team scored 2,648 and was led by sophomores Dylan Reed (557) and Will Jensen (552).
The EK girls didn't finish in the top five but had a strong showing for a first-time team. The team was led by freshman Chloe Stevens (380) and sophomores Olivia Nastasi (297) and Miale Hurlow (206)
The team also participated in a food drive for needy families during the event.
