FREDERICKTOWN – Mabel Smart Weller, aged 90, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Nov. 22, 2021. Mabel was a long-time member of PalmyraChurch of Christ and readily shared her love for Jesus.
Born on Aug. 25, 1931, in Huntington, Indiana, Mabel was the third of six children born to Sam and Olive Smart. She attended Huntington College where she met Eldon Weller whom she later married and moved with to Fredericktown, where they raised their family. She spent the last ten years of her life in Howard, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Scott Cline.
Mabel was a blessing to her family and friends and was loved by everyone who met her. She spent 27 years as a mother and wife before going to work in Dr. Blackburn’s medical office then to Martin Memorial Hospital as Communications Director. But her greatest joy was welcoming each new baby into her family. Mabel loved life, she was an avid Hoosier basketball fan, generous and giving and a prolific writer, sharing stories with many, of her years growing up. She laughed easily, loved fully and enjoyed watching sports, playing board games at which sometimes she cheated, reading, hanging out with her granddog, and especially spending time with family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was preceded in death by her sisters, Marilyn Marzano and Mary Reust, and brothers, Duane Smart and Allen Smart.
She is survived by her six children, SueAnne Ramsey (Ken), Stuart Weller (Cathy), Jayne Nicholson (Tommy), Alan Weller (Kendra), Amy Knight (Tim), and Jill Cline (Scott); 11 grandchildren, Andrea Gebert, Chad Weller, Courtney Weller, Chelsea Weller, Dylan Nicholson, Andrew Nicholson, Kiersten Bonifant, Logan Knight, Alex Knight, Cody Cline and Bryce Cline; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Leroy Smart.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, 2021 at the New Life Community Church, 9955 Mount Gilead Road, Fredericktown, with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. Mabel will be laid to rest beside her husband, Eldon, in Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown.
