FREDERICKTOWN – Roger W. Syler, 79, of Fredericktown passed away on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. He was born on May 29, 1942, in Mount Vernon, the son of Walter and Donna (Drummond) Syler. Roger was a 1960 graduate of Fredericktown High School.

After graduating from high school, Roger worked for Stevens Pontiac in Fredericktown before starting Roger Syler Excavating and running his own company for more than 40 years. When not working, Roger loved to travel, fish, and spend quality time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn (Ervin) Syler; his children, Cathy (Jim) Auker of Berne, Ind., Keith Syler of Baltimore, Md., and Kevin (Sharon) Syler of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Brittany (Nick) Payne, Jared Auker and Caleb Syler; and two great grandchildren, Harper and Logan Payne.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Syler.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 23, beginning at noon at the Mount Vernon First Church of God, 10 Pine St., Mount Vernon, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. in Ankenytown Cemetery. Pastor Dan Oakes will be officiating.

Memorial contributions in Roger’s name may be made to the Mount Vernon First Church of God or Hospice of Central Ohio.
