CENTERBURG – Juanita Jane Bumpus, 83, of 5739 Johnsville Road, Centerburg, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021. She was born on Feb. 16, 1938, in Centerburg, the daughter of Carl and Irene (Miesse) Miller, and lived in the Centerburg community all of her life. 

She graduated from Centerburg High School in 1956, growing up on a farm, assisting her parents in milking cows and gardening. She was an active 4-H member and later adviser. She met Leroy Bumpus in her junior year at CHS, and they were united in marriage on Feb. 16, 1957, on her birthday at her parents’ home on Perry Road in Centerburg, and to this union were born 3 sons and 4 daughters. Juanita was a loving wife to Leroy for 64 years and a full-time stay-at-home, devoted mother. In addition to fulfilling the needs of a growing family, she made time to volunteer her skills of cooking and sewing in making over 100 pounds of flour into homemade noodles for the Centerburg Schools Athletic food stand at the Hartford fair for over 10 years and cared for the CHS Band uniforms for 10 years and also volunteered as an aide in the Centerburg elementary schools for several years. She was also an active blood donor, Sunday school Bible teacher for a number of years and active in gardening and flower growing, in creating numerous rock gardens and planting and beautifying the Bumpus homesite with hundreds and hundreds of daffodils and other flowers. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Wim. 

She is survived by her husband, Leroy, as well as her sons, Terry (Debby) Bumpus of Centerburg and Jeff (Annice) Bumpus of Sherwood, Ariz.; her daughters Sherry (Steve) Gaines of Hawthorne, Fla., Patti (Charlie) Bradley of Lancaster, S.C., Heidi (Geoff) Dockray of Canadian, Texas, and Nicole (Nick) Yeager of Granville; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joyce Clark of Columbus, Jennie Lendon of Apple Creek and June Koontz of Centerburg. 

The Bumpus family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Knox Community Hospital, Willowbrook Christian Home, Centerburg Pointe, Kindred Hospice and Perry Church of Christ and Juanita’s sisters for all their loving care and support of Juanita. 

A visitation was held on Tuesday at the Centerburg Church of Christ in Centerburg with service on Wednesday, Vinton Morgan and Leroy Bumpus officiating.
