MOUNT VERNON – John L. Zweering, 90, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday, Oct. 31, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on Sept. 16, 1931, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of August and Margaret (Batts) Zweering. John proudly served in the United States Army where he was in the artillery division while stationed in Germany

After attending Ferris State University, John took a job as a technician in research and development with Continental Can in Mount Vernon, where he retired after 30 years of employment. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and worked as a volunteer driver for Interchurch in Mount Vernon for over 20 years. 

He is survived by his son Douglas (Anita) Zweering of Hilliard and a granddaughter, Audrina Zweering. 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Zweering; and a brother, Frederick Zweering.

A funeral service will be held on Nov. 5 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, where friends may call from noon until the time of service. Rev. Joe Proudfoot will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
