MOUNT VERNON – The Knox County Career Center (KCCC) High School hosted its annual advisory dinner on Thursday, Oct. 7.
Career technical education providers across the nation are required to meet twice a year with advisory members.
Advisory members for each lab are made up of local business professionals in their respective fields associated with each career tech program at KCCC High School. KCCC advisory members provide support and keep lab programs up to date with the latest trends and equipment being used in each career field. They also assist in curriculum decisions and making sure everything being taught is relevant to each career field.
KCCC hosted approximately 200 guests during the dinner. Instead of the traditional advisory dinner that takes place in the cafetorium at KCCC, the dinner and meetings were conducted in each career tech lab. Advisory members, lab instructors and academic teachers(s) were served a boxed dinner prepared by KCCC’s culinary arts program. A PowerPoint presentation was presented and information for each industry was discussed.
“This is an important evening for us. Our business and industry partners join with us to discuss important aspects of the career pathways we have at the high school and Knox Technical Center. We appreciate their time and valuable expertise. We had to tweak the meeting again this year due to the pandemic, but we were excited to have the majority of members attend in-person with health protocols in place,” said Kathy Greenich, KCCC superintendent.

Knox Technical Center (KTC) conducted its advisory dinner and meetings throughout the week of Oct. 4-8. KTC, the adult education branch of the Knox County Career Center Schools District, offers programs in a variety of fields ranging from health care to industrial trades.
Advisory members are people working in or retired from that profession who want to ensure that the next generation is equipped to succeed.
“They are experts in their field,” said Kim Williams, coordinator of the business and cosmetology programs at KTC.
“We depend on them for critical information.”
At this year’s meetings, “several people recommended we expand our delivery systems to include more online components, so we are looking into it,” said Lou Ann Shultz, coordinator of the Allied Health programs at KTC.
“We value our community members’ input and take their suggestions seriously,” Schultz said.
