MOUNT VERNON – Eileen M. Diehl, 100, of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital. She was born on Oct. 30, 1920, in Mount Vernon to the late Frank and Martha (Pierre) Harmon.
Eileen was a faithful member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and a 50-year member of the Liberty Grange. She had worked for the Shellmar Company and Mercy Hospital in Mount Vernon. She volunteered for many years with Interchurch Social Services. Eileen enjoyed sewing, babysitting for family and friends, baking and taking bus trips with her late husband, Clyde “Skip.”
Eileen is survived by her daughters, Linda (Dave) Doup of Mount Vernon, Marilyn (Ed) Miletic of Mount Vernon, Carolyn (John) Conkle of Mount Vernon and Mary Kay (Tim O’Rourke) Richard of Warsaw; sons, Jeffrey (Angie) Diehl of Mount Vernon and David (Patti) Diehl of Fredericktown; 13 grandchildren; one step grandchild; 28 great grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Judy Diehl of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde “Skip” Diehl; a son, Larry Diehl; a brother, Frank; and a half sister, Ellen.
The family will have a private graveside service. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 303 East High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050 in Eileen’s memory.
