MOUNT VERNON – Robert “Bob” Bebout, 79, of Mount Vernon passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 12, 1942, in Galion, the son of Dean Ross and Myrtle (Linn) Bebout. 

Bob was in the 1960 class of Fredericktown High School. He owned and operated Bebout Masonry for over 52 years from 1964 to 2016. Bob enjoyed drag racing and worked as owner and mechanic of Bebout Racing for over 61 years with his prized '69 Olds Cutlass 442. He enjoyed the family time that racing created and was proud to help Bebout Racing win seven track championships and four NHRA Divisional Championships. He also loved coaching and attending his children and grandchildren’s activities. Family, work and racing were his passion, and they all worked together. Bob was a member of the Palmyra Church of Christ and the NHRA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Shotts) Bebout, whom he married on Jan. 15, 1971; his children, Linn (Robyn) Bebout of Mount Vernon and Angie (Bill) Webb of Centerburg; grandchildren, Breanne Stanley, Cole (Sernia Chapman) Bebout, Caden (Macey Moore) Bebout and Zoe Webb; and great-grandchildren, Michael Mercer, Vayda Stanley and Everleigh Bebout. 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Bebout and John Bebout.

Friends may call on Monday, Sept. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Palmyra Church of Christ where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m.  Evangelist Troy Northrop will be officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
