MOUNT VERNON – Dona J. Burgess, 66, of Mount Vernon passed away on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 22, 1954, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Donald and Martina (Mawer) Mavis. Dona retired in 2019 after 25-plus years with AEP. She attended Christ the King Community Church in Fredericktown.
Dona loved cooking, working in her flower garden and spending time with her family. She had a heart of gold and really enjoyed doing more for others than herself. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, as she enjoyed decorating and watching others' faces light up when receiving a gift. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Dona is survived by her husband, James “Steve” Burgess; her children, Ryan (Kimberly) Burgess of Mount Vernon and Curtis Burgess of Mount Vernon; her grandchildren, Brynn and Blake Burgess, and Owen and Ayla Burgess; her sister, Pamela (Jeffrey) Sperling of Surfside, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Lucian Baker will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in Dona’s name may be made to Hospice of Knox County or Christ the King Community Church.
