SPARTA – Reuben Ellis Kinney, 85, of Hershey, PA, formerly of Sparta, Ohio, passed away on Sept. 17, 2021, at the Masonic Healthcare Center. Reuben was recently recognized for 60 years as a Master Mason.
He was born Sept. 7, 1936, in Mount Vernon, OH, son of the late Howard E. and Virginia R. (Pierce) Kinney.
Reuben graduated from Sparta High School in Sparta. He then joined the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the service, he graduated from the Dale Carnegie Program and had a successful career in insurance sales. He liked to keep busy, so after retirement, he worked part-time at Pronio’s Market. His memberships include: Hershey Kiwanis Club, World War II Roundtable, Antique Automobile Association, Hershey/Derry Township Historical Center (volunteer), Hershey Gardens (volunteer), Hershey’s Track & Field Youth Program (volunteer for 30 years), Camp Hill Church of Christ.
Reuben is survived by daughter Pamela Kinney of Owasso, OK, Mark Kinney of Hershey, Rhonda Kinney of Oroville, CA and Michael (Tracey) Kinney of Palmyra; and grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel and Kathryn Kinney, and Kaitlyn Durda; brother Lewis P. (Georgeann); sister Lois V. (Garry) Sawyer; and sister in law, Lois Gantt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Gracie Fay (Justice) Kinney.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, 88 Lucy Ave., Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 3 p.m. A private interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery.
