MOUNT VERNON – Thomas R. Fosnaught, 83, of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus surrounded by his family. He was born on June 11, 1938, in Delphos, Ohio, to the late Harold and Kathryn Fosnaught. He graduated from Delphos Jefferson High School and Miami University where he was an officer and active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Tom was the owner of G. R. Smith Hardware for 25 years and then became a financial planner and stockbroker for the remainder of his career.
Thomas was an active community leader most of his adult life. He was a member of the board of directors of the Knox County Savings Bank, the Ohio Junior Miss Scholarship Program, the Rotary Club and Knox Community Hospital for many years. Tom was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, the Mount Vernon Country Club, the Old Homestead Club, the Knox County Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Vernon Jaycees. He enjoyed boating, water and snow skiing but especially golf. He loved spending summers in Northern Michigan and winters in Siesta Key, Florida. He also enjoyed spending time with his five special grandchildren, who always made him laugh and smile.
Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne Winslow Fosnaught; son, Michael (Cathy) Fosnaught; daughter, Kristine (Steve) Tier; grandchildren, Samuel Fosnaught, Jacob Fosnaught, Amanda Tier, Nicholas Tier and Megan Tier; sister, Karen King; brothers in law, Robert (Barbara) Winslow and Joseph (Denise) Winslow; and sister in law, Susan (Scott) Putnam, along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Gay Street United Methodist Church with refreshments and fellowship to follow. COVID protocols will be followed, and masks are respectfully required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knox Community Hospital Foundation.
