CENTERBURG – Sandra Kay Hankins, 64, of Centerburg passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 31, 1956, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Donald and Ella “Gertrude” (Shipley) Ramey.

Sandy, commonly known as “Meemaw,” was the heart of the family as well as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Anyone who crossed her path knew her kind soul, soft-spoken nature and nurturing heart. She enjoyed working on the family farm and knew all of the parts involved from animal care to the general chores. While Sandy was good at many things, she was best at expressing her love of her family through food and time and attention. She lived her days in support of her family, especially her last four years as “Meemaw” to Tinsley. The best four years.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Hankins; her children, Zachariah (Heather) Hankins of Fredericktown and Sheena (Travis) Yoakam of Centerburg; her granddaughter, Tinsley Yoakam; and a brother, Donnie (Becky) Ramey of Centerburg.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will observe private services and burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Sandra Kay Hankins.

Memorial contributions in Sandy’s name may be made to Kindred Hospice.
