The Fredericktown Senior Citizens met on Aug. 11 at Sockman Lake Community Shelter House. There were 31 members, five guests and one child to have a luncheon provided by Taste of Country and Linda Shira.
Our entertainment was the Granny Creek quintet. Because of the pandemic, the group of retirees wanted to do something they thought they could do regularly. Being musically inclined, they found a place they could meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the mornings to just play and sing. From those practices, they now go out and play at different organizations, and we were blessed to have them play songs from long ago for the Fredericktown Senior Citizens.
Old Business – Phyllis Shira reported on the municipal building construction. She stopped by earlier this week, and they were working on carpet and finishing touches. The kitchen area has been enclosed and looks very nice. There will be round tables for us to use on our next meeting, and the people who play cards will still be able to use the room. Just check with the Mayor’s Office to make sure it is not in use that day.
New Business – Next meeting will be moved to Oct. 13 at the newly renovated municipal building. The meat and beverage will be supplied, and everyone else is to bring a side dish or dessert. Upcoming bus trips: Sept. 1, going to The Wilds with a guided tour; and Nov. 11, last bus tour is La Comedia Dinner Theater in Springboro to see “A Christmas Story.” Contact Sue or Morris James if interested in going on either of these trips.
Birthdays to celebrate in July and August were Linda Shira (78); Betty Smith (88), Joyce Pence (92) and Belinda Litt (65). Anniversaries for July and August were Fred and Vonda Turner (67), Calvin and Joyce Pence (52), Denzel and Sandra Koppert (56) and Dean and Linda Shira (58). Deaths since our last meeting were Skip Edwards and Herald Ebersole.
The meeting ended with Martha Blanchard reading a “Monkey Business” story.
