MOUNT VERNON – John N. McBride, 92, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, at the Whispering Hills Nursing Home.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1928, in Harrisville, Pennsylvania, to the late William and Mary (North) McBride.
John was a member of the United States Army enlisting on Sept. 7, 1948. He was discharged on Sept. 6, 1951. He served in Panama for 30 months; following the service, he was employed by the Cooper-Bessemer Corporation in Grove City, Pa.; the Mellon National Bank in Harrisville, Pa.; AMG Industries in Akron, which moved to Mount Vernon; and CVI Inc. in Hilliard, where he retired in 1993.
John and family moved to Mount Vernon in 1967, and he and his family served in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church for nearly 40 years.
He is survived by his sons Donald (Patti) McBride, William (Carina) McBride, John (Linda) McBride and Gregg McBride; fourteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth McBride; his daughter, Beverly Fowler; granddaughter Holly Fowler; and his brother, Wendell “Wink” McBride.
Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 20, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. A service will follow, beginning at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jeremy Logan officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
