FREDERICKTOWN – Phillip David “Skip” Edwards, 84, of Fredericktown passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Aug. 4, 1936, in Mount Vernon, to the late Phillip and Rose (Swingle) Edwards.
Phillip retired with 30 years as a Rural Mail Carrier for the Fredericktown Post Office. He was a lifelong farmer, a Farm Bureau Member, and a member of the Wayne Grange for over 60 years. Phillip was a member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. He served on the Board of Trustees for Consolidated Electric for 30 years. Phillip honorably served his country in the Army. His life revolved around his family, especially his grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed gold panning and fishing.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Beverly (Darling) Edwards, whom he married on Aug. 7, 1958; daughter, Candy (David) Crawford of Fredericktown; grandchildren, Wendi Woodell, Jodi Frazee, Chasity Curry, Liberty Curry, David L. Crawford and Rebecca Crawford; and great-grandchildren, Riley and Eleni Woodell, Brayden Lewis, Dallys Fincher, Macyn Frazee, Trinity and Nathan Garrettson, Sierra Rine, Sadie and Sklyar Watson, Haylee and Wyatt Cunningham, Marlie, Alaina and Callie Potts and Megan Bolden.
In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Connors.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 East College St., Fredericktown, where a prayer service and a time of sharing will follow the visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father Daniel Olvera as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
