CENTERBURG – Edward Alvin Dick, 87, of Centerburg passed peacefully Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. Ed proudly served Delaware County as the EMS Chief for 13 years before becoming Delaware County’s first EMA Supervisor.
Born Nov. 29, 1933, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Edwin and Lelia (Clarke) Dick. Following high school, Ed served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, Korean War, 2nd Infantry (Indian Head) Division, 1951 - 1954. Ed went on to become the first Registered Emergency Medical Technician in Knox County and was a Charter Member EMT for the United States of America. Ed also worked for the Delaware County Sherriff, served as Delaware County EMS Chief from 1972-1981 and again from 1986 - 1990, EMT State Instructor, Captain – Centerburg Fire Department, and the Centerburg Police Department as Marshall and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Operation Lifesaver, St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
Ed was predeceased by his son, Hugh Alan; great-granddaughter, Ava Lynn; and brother, Everett.
Ed is survived by loving wife of 67 years Judith Lynn (Giles) Dick; children, Steve (Sandy) Dick, Matt (Staci) Dick, Tim (Mike) Dick, Gina Oswalt and Eric (Monica) Clarke; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday at St John Neumann Church, 9633 E OH-37, Sunbury. Rev. Fr. Daniel Dury, Celebrant. Interment with military honors to follow at Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eddie’s memory may be made to the Bells Campaign – St. John Neumann Church, Ohio Operation LifeSaver, and/or Capital City Hospice.
