MOUNT VERNON — After 40 years as a chiropractor, Dr. Carl Eyman, D.C., will be retiring on July 23.

Dr. Mark Boynton, an associate at Eyman's practice since 2021 who completed a preceptor program there in late 2020, will be taking over the practice on July 26.

Eyman, originally from Lancaster, attended Ohio University before being enlisted in the Navy. His service, from 1972-1976, included training at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland, working there in the Intensive Care and Cardiac Surgical Unit, working as an anesthesia assistant in the Camp Pendleton Hospital operating room, and as a Marine Corp Field Medic in the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan; Korea; and the Philippines. Afterward, he attended Ohio State University and graduated with his doctor of chiropractic in 1981 from Palmer College of Chiropractic.

The first five years of practice he spent as an associate at the Delaware Chiropractic Center. He then spent 1983-1987 self-employed at the Centerburg Chiropractic Center before opening his own Eyman Chiropractic Center in Mount Vernon.

Eyman plans to spend time with family, golf, go fishing, do photography and travel the U.S.

"Many older patients have told me that it is best to retire when you are still able to do the things that you enjoy doing while you are physically able to do them." Eyman wrote in a press release. "I will miss my employees and my patients, they were family to me."

Eyman and his wife of 44 years, Cindy, have three grown daughters; one granddaughter, age 13; and five grandsons, ages 4-10.

"I look forward to watching them grow up and attending their dance competitions, sporting events, school and other activities that they will be participating in," he wrote.
