MOUNT VERNON – Emil Charles Goeppinger, 91, of Mount Vernon, died on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital in Columbus. He was born on Jan. 20, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to Karl and Berta (Duemmler) Goeppinger.
Emil attended Centerburg Schools, where he met Betty. He married Betty Atkinson on Jan. 30, 1988. She passed away on Oct. 20, 2018.
Emil worked for 37 years for Continental Can. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards and woodworking, but he always put his family first.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Kathy (Larry Talbott) Lester, John (Cathy) Goeppinger, Steven (Christine) Goeppinger, Barbara (Gregory) VanHouten, Thomas (Rhonda) Goeppinger, Ken (Patti) Goeppinger and Beth (Scott) Thompson; step-children, Charles Wilson Jr. and Debbie (Jay) Cotts; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Arthur Goeppinger and Frank (Lynn) Goeppinger; and sisters, Margareta Kirkpatrick and Rosalinda (Bob) Heinlen.
Emil was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Phyllis {Kaser} Goeppinger; wife, Betty; his parents; brother, Walter (Harriett) Goeppinger; and brother-in-law, Earl Kirkpatrick.
Friends may call from 9–10 a.m. on Monday at Roberts Funeral Home-Mount Vernon Chapel in Mount Vernon. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Dr. Gary Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
