MOUNT VERNON – Roger Preston Main passed away on May 16, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Dec. 8, 1940, in Mount Vernon, he was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Class of 1958.
Married to his childhood sweetheart in 1967, he is survived by his beloved wife, Sara; children, Dale (Teresa) Main, Margaret (George) Bowling, Haley (Mikolaj) Main-Lis and Randy (Nicole Pusateri) Main; grandchildren, Sarah and John Bowling, and a dear grandson on the way; two sisters, Barbara Spearman and Beverly Wean; sisters-in-law, Carol Dalglish, Mary Busenburg and Maria BeBee; nephews and nieces, Lee Dalglish, Kim Dalglish, Jen Wean, Chris Wean, Kathy (Mike) Mosholder, Rick Spearman, Alyssa (Gus) Nyburg and Michael (Amanda) Solomon; and many dear great-nephews and nieces.
Roger built a distinguished 45-year career working with the Pepsi Cola company, beginning as a distributor for Knox County and ultimately retiring from management, taking a break only to serve for a period in the United States Army in the Vietnam era. Roger loved spending time with his family, playing poker with his buddies and enjoying time with friends — he could start a conversation with almost anyone.
For 40 years, every Sunday morning was a very special time set aside for he and Sara to meet with their dear childhood friends Patty and Mike Flora, sharing the highs and lows of life together through thick and thin, recalling childhood adventures and sharing many laughs. Roger was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and his home away from home was Honey Buckets, where he was surrounded by more dear friends who laughed, argued politics and shared stories with him — and who cherished him.
A very special thanks to everyone who loved and supported Roger in his battle with cancer: to his sisters, Barb and Bev; to his dear friend Richard; to Dave Jarvis; and to Angie, Kevin, Chad, Steve and all his friends at Honey Buckets; to his lifelong friends, Patty, Mike and Elaine; to his Hospice of North Central Ohio team, Jen, Hannah, Devon, Debbie and Angie; to Dr. Nimeth and his office; and to the amazing staff of Independency LLC, Beth and Rachel, who made it possible for Roger to fight his fight in his own home surrounded by family.
A memorial service is planned for late summer when all of Roger’s family will be present.
