AMITY – Dwaine Richard “Dick” Doup, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, May 10, 2021. He was born in Knox County, Ohio, on Dec. 22, 1938, to Melvin and Rowena (Earnest) Doup.
Dick graduated from Amity High School in 1956 and was awarded the FFA State Farmer Degree. For 23 years, he worked at Chattanooga Glass in the maintenance department. He then worked at Knox Community Hospital. Not able to sit still for long, Dick took a retirement job at Ace Hardware, where he was able to get paid doing one of his favorite hobbies: tinkering around with tools and equipment.
A lifelong sports fan, Dick played football, basketball and baseball in high school. He passed his love for sports along to his children and coached Babe Ruth baseball for many years. He loved being outside, whether it was on the golf course, working in the yard, cleaning his latest John Deere tractor or plotting out “racetracks” for his grandchildren to race their dirt bikes and go-carts on in the field next to his home. Dick loved spending time with his family, always hosting family parties, bonfires and other get-togethers. He was an active member of Amity United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.
Dick is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Ilene (Rogers). He is also survived by his sons, Rick (Belinda) Doup and Kelly (Alice) Doup, both of Mount Vernon; daughter, Penny (Jim) Sturtevant of Sunbury; brother, Delvin (Susie) Doup of Amherst; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Doup of Fredericktown and Betty Doup of Mount Vernon; and brothers-in-law, Bill Rogers of Mount Vernon and Donnie (Susan) Rogers of Howard. Additionally, he is survived by his eight grandchildren, Jason (Niki) Corrigan, Lauren (George) Stark, Kyle (Chris) Brunn, Katie (Will) Boyer, Dane’t (Derek) Doup, Russell Doup, David Sturtevant and Maria (Jalen) Sturtevant; four great-grandchildren, Connor Stark, Kaia and Miles Corrigan, and Cameron Brunn, plus a fifth on the way; and many beloved niece and nephews.
Preceding Dick in death were his parents; his brothers, Bob and Jack Doup; and a sister-in-law, Judy Rogers.

Calling hours will be held from 4–7 p.m. on Friday, May 14, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, at Lasater Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Lasater Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Amity Cemetery.
