Did you know?
Recently, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry said, “Even if we get to net zero, we still have to get carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere … This is a bigger challenge than a lot of people have grabbed onto yet.” Well, someone might want to let Special Envoy Kerry know that CO2 is actually quite necessary and integral to life on earth.
Do you feel like you’ve heard all these dire challenges and claims like, “The world is going to end in X years if we don’t act now” before? You’re not alone. For decades, our leaders and institutions have made irresponsible, emotionally-charged, fear-mongering predictions that never seem to come true. Seriously, never. Not even close.
Whether it’s Joe Biden in 1987 predicting “a catastrophe of biblical proportion” in the next few years or the UN in 1995 claiming the East Coast of the U.S. would disappear by 2020. Or, Al Gore in 2009 saying there would be no arctic ice in five years. Or, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2019 saying the world will end in 12 years. Statements like these have become much too commonplace.
The reality is the U.S. has already accomplished so much with our best air quality in half a century and leading the world in emissions reductions. This outrageous rhetoric is damaging to the real solutions American families want for both a cleaner environment and an affordable, reliable energy future. We can achieve both of those goals by building on our progress and making smart choices that benefit ALL Americans—not just the out of touch, political elite.
