TUCSON, Ariz. – Phyllis Arlene Payne (née Pier) passed away peacefully from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Adobe Adult Care assisted living facility in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 87.

Phyllis is survived by her two children, Debra (Rex) Naylor of Fredericktown and Dr. John W. (James H. Jelley) Payne II of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jamie Naylor of Florida, Grant Payne of Columbus, Kelsey(Christopher) Powell of Powell, Cassandra (Tyler) Curran of Mount Vernon and Kennedy Naylor of Fredericktown. Additionally, Phyllis is survived by three great-grandchildren, Tucker Curran, Audrey Curran and Toby Curran of Mount Vernon; and stepbrothers and sisters, Sharon Pier and Fr. Peter (Pam) Pier.  

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Payne I; her parents, Ann (Fano) Pier and Milford Pier; a sister, Carolyn Ann Bias; and a great-grandchild, Daniel Curran.
