Chloe Goulter and Ben Riegel took first place in two events each to lead the Centerburg track and field team at a tri-meet at Worthington Christian on Tuesday, April 27.
Goulter won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.34 seconds. She took the 200-meter (27.74) as well.
Riegel continued his stellar season with first-place finishes in the shot put (54 feet, 6 inches) and the discus (161-0).
Avery Tucker took first in the 400-meter (1:04.74) and Tyler Johnson won the 200-meter (15.14) for the Trojans.
As a team, the boys (53 points) finished second behind Grandview Heights (78) and ahead of the host Warriors (19). The girls team (33.5) was third behind Worthington Christian (57) and the Bobcats (48.5).
Cardington tri
Matthew Barnes swept the hurdle events to lead the Fredericktown boys team (125) over host Cardington (80) and Marion Elgin (49) on Tuesday, April 27.
Barnes won the 110-meter hurdles (21.94) and the 300-meter hurdles (48.54) for the Freddies.
Additional wins for the team included Thomas Caputo in the 800-meter (2:06:14), Joshua Rashley in the discus (115-1), Logan Small in the long jump (17-9.5) and Steven Tumbleson in the pole vault (12-6).
Small was a part of the 4x200-meter relay winning team (1:39.44) along with JJ Grennell, Billy Woodring and Jeremiah McKinley.
Jackets, Generals split
Erich Rhodeback and Bryce Wiles won two events apiece to lead the host Mount Vernon boys team to a narrow 70-67 win over Wooster on Tuesday, April 27.
Rhodeback set personal records in both events – the 100-meter hurdles (14.4) and the high jump (6-1.5).
Wiles, who also took first in the 100-meter (11.21), set a personal best in the 200-meter (23.02).
Logan Eggert won the 800-meter (2:01.09), Matt Salvucci won the 1,600-meter (4:47.88), Logan Moore took the pole vault (11-6) and Dylan Dowell won the long jump (18-9.75) for the Yellow Jackets.
While McKenna Brokaw won four events, setting a personal best in one, the Mount Vernon girls team fell 79-58 to West Holmes.
Brokaw won the long jump with a PR of 16-7.25 and added wins in the high jump (4-6), the 100-meter hurdles (16.9) and the 300-meter hurdles (50.72).
Sarah Phillips set a personal mark of 27.84 to win the 200-meter and Amaris Middle tied her PR of 12.91 in the 100-meter.
Nevaeh Williams took first in the shot put (31-4) for Mount Vernon.
Highland boys win quad at Northmor
The Highland boys team (94) took six events to knock off host Northmor (71.5), Clear Fork (54.5) and Danville (32) at a quad-meet in Galion.
In individual events, winners included Caden Holtrey in the shot put (45-5), Landon Remmert in the 110-meter hurdles (15.94), Jay Melchiori in the 300-meter hurdles (44.24), Ashton Hamilton in the 400-meter (54.14), and Duncan in the 800-meter (2:14.44) in individual events.
The team of Owen Stillwell, Hamilton, Alex McClellan and Dane Nauman were first in the 4x200-meter relay (1:42.54).
Jackson Loyd (23.74) was second in the 200-meter behind Northmor’s PJ Lower (23.34) and Aiden Bell (20-1) finished just behind Lower (21-1.5) in the long jump to lead the Blue Devils.
Highland was third (50) and Danville (35) was fourth behind the Colts (94) and the Golden Knights (72) in the girls quad.
The Scots did their damage in the relays. Makenna Belcher, Peyton Carpenter, Juliette Laracuente and Brylinn Tuggle won the 4x100-meter (52.14); Belcher, Mackenzie Blubaugh, Carpenter and Tuggle took the 4x200-meter (1:55.14); and Jade Disbennett, Lauren Garber, Camryn Miller and Mia White were first in the 4x400-meter (4:50.84).
Alenah Boeshart won the 100-meter (13.14), Brooklynn Hess the 300-meter hurdles (52.34) and Rachel Wilson the long jump (14-0) to lead the Devils.
MG sweeps East Knox
Emily Opfer took first in three events to lead the East Knox girls, but visiting Mount Gilead took the dual 75-52 on Tuesday, April 27, in Howard.
Opfer was first in the 100-meter (13.56), the 300-meter hurdles (52.56) and the shot put (30-11.5) to lead the Bulldogs.
Alexandria Magers finished first in the 200-meter (29.25) and Taylor Severt in the 800-meter (2:40.49) and each added wins in relay events.
Magers teamed with Haleigh Landis, Madi Annett and Kara Salyers in the 4x400-meter (4:43.22) and Severt with Kara Salyers, Joci Totten and Haleigh Landis to take the 4x800-meter (11:13.29).
Individually, Macy Spencer was tops in the discus (90-6.5).
In boys action, Mount Gilead defeated the Bulldogs 104-32. Seth Madden in the 800-meter (2:23.04), Dillon Moreland in the 3,200-meter (11:36.29) and Sam Whitney in the long jump (18-8) were first-place finishers for East Knox.
BOYS TENNIS
Mount Vernon got a solid effort out of Jack Staats in first singles action, but the Jackets couldn’t keep up with host Granville and fell 5-0 in non-league play on Tuesday, April 27.
Campbell Lucas-Miller held off Staats 6-3, 6-3; Thomas Bain defeated Quinn Hoffman 6-2, 6-1; and Demmi Martinez beat Beckett Elkins 6-1, 6-0 to sweep singles action for the Blue Aces.
Noah Charlton and Ben Thompson beat Brian Sabula and Alex Buehrer 6-1, 6-0 and Adrian Fultoner and Jacob Lucas-Miller defeated Ethan Jarosz and Toby Boggs 6-2, 6-1 in doubles play.
