CENTERBURG – Lloyd “Bud” Huddlestun, 86, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021, following a brief hospitalization.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gladys. They are parents of four children, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
He was raised in Olive Green, graduated from Big Walnut High School (Class of 1952), then settled in Rich Hill.
As a jack-of-all-trades, Bud will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help with fixing, repairing and building just about anything. He was involved with Centerburg Little League and Cub Scouts, frequently drove his granddad’s Model-T in community parades and was a longtime avid golfer. He was a proud electrician who mastered his skills at Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Mount Vernon, Nestle’s in Sunbury and Anheuser-Busch in Columbus; before retiring to their second home in Florida and then moving to North Carolina in 2016.
As a 50-year-plus active member of the Masons, Bud will be remembered in the following positions of honor at Mount Zion #9, Mount Vernon: past Master of Bloomfield Blue Lodge, York Rite Mason, Knight of the York Cross of Honor, High Priest of the Chapter, Illustrious Master of the Council and Commander of Commandry.
In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by his brother, Don Walters of Fredericktown; sons, Wayne (Sherry) Huddlestun of Sparta and John (Birgit) Huddlestun of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; daughter, Nancy Hendrickson of Pineville, North Carolina; grandsons, Travis Huddlestun of Westerville, Andrew Hollis of Marengo and Peter (Kelsey) Huddlestun of Columbia, South Carolina; and granddaughters, Jenifer (Mike) Averill of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Shannon (Jason) Collins of Pataskala, Emily (Anthony) Hunter of Fredericktown and Carrie Buck of Fredericktown. He is fondly remembered and loved by great-grandchildren, extended family and many dear friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his grandparents, John & Hattie (Foulk) Huddlestun; parents, Lloyd Sr. and Ruth (Walters) Huddlestun; brother, Donald Huddlestun; sisters, Evelyn Roof and June Johnson; a daughter, Ruthann; a grandson, David Huddlestun; and a great-grandson, Elijah Collins.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, April 26, at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61 (at State Route 3) in Sunbury. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Rich Hill Cemetery in Centerburg, with Pastor Joshua Creason officiating.
